On a typical morning walk in San Francisco but this time opposite of my normal direction. The new angles reveal new things. Here a Jacaranda in full glory.

Open Gardens San Francisco - Sunday, May 31
You’re invited for a free garden walking tour (self guided) in the Mission Dolores/Lower Haight neighborhoods of San Francisco on the last day of May. Three gardens all within walking distance from Market Street Muni stations. A wonderful area to walk and explore. It’s that time of year where everything is firing off; I want to share.

Orlaya grandiflora (Minoan Lace)
This lacy white flower, an annual, one that sprouts, grows, sets seeds and dies in less than one year. The key to this plant is to let the seeds mature on the stem until tawny beige color. Spread the seeds and next year you will have many little plants to choose from.

Road Trip 2026 - Wildside Nursery

| Southwestern tip of England with potential garden stops |
Wildside Nursery is a destination for the Road Trip 2026 in June. This garden has been on our "to see" list for five or six years now. It is tucked away in the South West corner of England in Devon. A popular summer holiday destination for the English. This corner of the country gets the most warmth and can grow many Mediterranean plants. Portions of the garden have naturalistic plantings from California and South Africa. Both of these Mediterrannean areas offer great selections of plants and I want to see it.
