Chelsea Flower Show

This years show is my third visit to the Chelsea Flower Show.  A rock star event if you love plants and gardens.  There is so much here but it falls into a few categories.   Garden design by top design firms, Plant introductions and identification, other show gardens and then the commercial aspect, with vendors of all things garden.  In many cases, it's difficult to see the commercial sponsors, but they are there ready to do business.

For me this year, it was more about the visitors and their interactions with the installations.  You will see a lot more people in this years photos.  With emphasis on floral dresses and shirts.

Glasgow Botanical Garden - Scotland

National collection of tree ferns.

Learning the names of plants is the botanical garden best attribute for me.   This is where I can find out what's what.  So I can research those items more thoroughly.  But the glass house usually don't offer me much for potential plant material.  I tend to love the building more than the plants.  This is from the civil engineer in me.  I really appreciate the Victorian engineering.

Castle & Gardens of Mey - Scotland

A remote village on Scotland’s north coast.  Although it’s the first week of May, we experience 4 degree C and sleet.   Along with a steady wind from the north to chill one’s bones.  The gardener was turning the soil in a bed mixing in compost or manure.  Soil was heavy and looked like hard work.  One to keep him warm.
