RHS Hyde Hall & Batsford Arboretum

In the afternoon on the 24th we drove across England to Essex.  We are headed to the RHS Hyde Hall Garden near Chelmsford.  Our last visit here was in 2016 and I recall a few areas I liked.  The Australian and New Zealand garden, the Mediterranean garden, thw colored borders, the cottage garden and the modern country garden.

It is already clear that Agapanthus will be one of the flowers of this trip.  I have already seen at least a couple dozen varieties in full bloom.  One of my favorites, here’s Agapanthus’Poppin Purple’

Batsford Arboretum July 24
Started our day from Chelthenham
Stopped at Batsford arboretum

Hermit’s Cave

variety azara micro

Little too pedestrian, with roped off pathways, unnecessary signage and dated follies.
But being an arboretum it did have some beautiful specimen trees including
Sequoias
thuja plicata
bark of pseudotsuga menziesui
pinus strobus

Would I return to this garden, probably not.
