The Ruth Bancroft Garden & Nursery

I took BART over to Oakland to eat lunch with Frank.  We both have been traveling recently and haven’t hung out in weeks.  After lunch we decide to drive to The Ruth Bancroft Garden & Nursery.   Frank has a project that requires a lot of drought tough plants.   Here’s what I saw and a few of my thoughts.

Lots of things blooming, Aloes, Acacias, tulips, and others things I don’t know the name, nor really care to know the names.  Most everything here is either too big or too sharp for any of my gardens in San Francisco.  Even though it is only 24 miles apart, the climates differ greatly.

Sparaxis along with an unknown purple flower.

Too Sharp and Too Big

The eucalyptus were blooming and again too big for my gardens.

Oh The Aloes!

Is this an Aloe, I really want it to be?

In the parking lot.

Their sidewalk hell-strip is much wider and roomy compared to those in SF.

Mangave anyone?  This is too sharp and big for me.

Ceanothus is a sea of lush green.
