White Flower Terrace

In 2016 we decided to expand the white flower garden around the stairs, which consisted mainly of two iceburg roses and a large viburnum along with the usual annuals, to included the next terrace in front of the studio.  Here we had more real estate to have some fun.  I started adding more as each season came and this year it is looking full.

Video below gives you a quick 360 of this small terrace.

The Characters

I started with five Choisya ternata clipped into balls.  This plant is the foundation of the white flower terrace.  It will flower in at least three flushes each year.    As soon as one flush dies down, I shear it into a tight ball thus invigorating it to spring back with fresh green leaves and 8-12 weeks later a flush of fresh smelling white flowers.   Below is Gladiolus 'The Bride', Alyssum (Lobularia maritima), NoID Geranium with small bright silver leaves.

Stachys byzantina above, and Hardenbergia violacea 'White Out' below.

A particularly great looking Choisya ternata ball in full bloom.  And does it have a fragrance!

Magnolia stellata 'Royal Star' with another Choisya just behind it to make those delicate loose petals of the magnolia show up.

Allium tuberosum (Chinese Chives)

Ixia monadelpha swaying in the wind.

Leucojum aestivum (Snowflakes)

Omphalodes linifolia (Venus's Navelwort)

Two roses, Icecap & Iceburg

Orlaya grandiflora (Minoan Lace) with a medium sized blue butterfly.

Tulips, why not. I only need forty to fill the space.  They sure are stiff instead of my normal style of loose chaos.

Salvia leucantha 'Velour'
