Memphis Fling - Second Day

Annesdale Mansion

We toured at least 12 gardens on Saturday June 7th, the second day at the Memphis Fling.  Memphis is a small second city kind of city in the middle of the United States.  The natural beauty for this landscape dominated by the mighty Mississippi River seen by the large areas of green space, Ox Bow lakes and large trees.   Although the city has many problems, it has some enthusiastic people who love this place and take their duty seriously.

I am going backwards today, this is the last garden where we had a banquet dinner, speeches and product raffles.  The setting of this mansion on the tallest peak in Memphis was nothing short of spectacular.  The BBQ dinner and refreshments was delicious.

The neighborhoods around Central Gardens was our afternoon designations.

Here we are mid-morning in the heart of the Central Gardens neighborhood.  Much larger lots with big house and even bigger gardens.   Here's a great example of the many Echinacea we saw throughout our visit to Memphis.   It's the Mid-America meadow plant that was peaking in June.

Very large storm marched across the plains and into Tennessee.   One thing I miss from the South is the Thunderstorms.   I know this video isn't much but I love that sound.

Since the lots are so big in Central Gardens, the trees have more room to develop.
The morning started with a neighborhood walk and open garden in the Lenox neighborhood of Memphis. More modest Craftsman style houses of small more intimate lots. These are more like the size gardens I work in back home in San Francisco.

New Orleans is just down the Mississippi River from Memphis.  We have seen a few salvaged items from New Orleans, here the root tiles and the iron balconies on the Annesdale Mansion in the first photos.
